Bartók’s pantomime ballet, The Miraculous Mandarin, was considered scandalous and banned in Germany after the first performance! Hear the vivid music that tells the tale of seduction, debauchery and murder. Through narration, video, and musical examples played by the orchestra, this event in the widely-acclaimed Beyond the Score© series gives you all the background you need to fully appreciate the score for this provocative post-First-World-War urban pantomime.

The Exposed concert series takes both new and experienced music lovers on a journey into selected major works. Hear musical excerpts and commentary, and discover what makes each piece unique and important. Concerts are presented within an informative context during the first half of the concert, followed by a complete performance of the work in the second half.
